Description
The Kernel Mud Turtle is a genus of reptile in the family Actinopterygidae of the order Tortoises, also known as the Kernel Turtle. The adult body is long oval. The head is medium-sized, conical, brownish-yellow, with a blunt snout. The eyes are equal in size, the neck is thick, and the head and neck have bright yellow longitudinal stripes; the dorsal carapace is brownish-yellow or brownish-brown with three ridges, which is more obvious in juvenile turtles, and the posterior edge of the dorsal carapace is not serrated. Ventral carapace is brownish yellow, with thick and clear slits, the two lobes of the ventral carapace are connected by ligaments, and the two lobes of the ventral carapace can be closed upward; the toes are webbed with 5 claws on the forelimbs and 4 claws on the hindlimbs; the tail is thick and short, with fleshy protuberances on the upper part. Male turtles have a concave abdomen and a long, thick tail; female turtles have a flat abdomen and a short, thin tail.
