Description
The dorsal armor of the adult Mexican musk turtle has three stronger vertebrae that will remain with it throughout its life. The middle vertebrae expand out along the five front and back vertebral shields, and the lateral vertebrae on either side of the dorsal armor are similarly wider than the salwing, which is longer than its own width at adulthood. The 9th to 11th marginal shield armor is higher than the other previous eight.
