Description
The narrow-bridged snapping turtle (scientific name: Claudius angustatus ) is a reptile of the family Actinopterygii and the genus Snapping Turtle, [5-6] also known as the narrow-bridged snapping musk turtle, narrow-bridged egg turtle, and narrow-bridged musk turtle. The body is about 14 centimeters long, [6-7] oval; the back has three longitudinal ridges that blur with age; the surface of the dorsal carapace is marked with growth and radial lines, usually brown or light brown in color, with a black line of intersection between the shield carapaces; the plastron is cruciform; the chin has a pair of antennae; the limbs are pale gray, with webbed feet between the toes; the tail is long and thick, with angular spines at the end; and the dorsal carapace has glands under the posterior end capable of release a musky odor. Males are slightly longer than females. It is named for its cross-shaped and unusually narrow ventral armor.
