Description
Physical characteristics of the helmeted kinkajou include a hemispherically shaped dorsal carapace ranging in color from light yellow to dark brown and a smooth, unribbed dorsal carapace without a particularly enlarged rimmed shield.1 In addition, the helmeted kinkajou’s ventral carapace is movable, and the head and forelimbs can be fully retracted into the shell, which is somewhat similar to that of the closed-shelled tortoises.
